Slow Week of Progress !!

I didn't achieve as much as I wished last week but I made forward progress so that's still good.

Here is Thomas, I thought I'd be further along but progress is progress. I've also run out of a couple of colours which surprises me because I've done a few of these kits now and I've never had that problem. Never mind it's only DMC !!

I've also done another two squares of my sew and stitch quilt. I still like this project, the nautical theme is sooo cute ...

September Already ?!?!?

I can't believe it's September already but I've been plugging away at my wips. First up is Thomas. I've managed to do a nice chunk of this. I'm loving all the colours after the constant orange of my owl wip ...

I completed two more of my own designs ...

I've also done some knitting this month. I've made a little monkey and started a bear. Both of these were free kits from magazines. I know they are probably not the best patterns but these little kits have taught me a lot. I did an i-cord on the monkey for the first time and they turned out great as its limbs ...

I've also done a couple more squares on my sew and stitch magazine quilt. These are my latest two squares ...

My Secret Finish !!!

I have finally finished my mothers sixtieth birthday present and it's only seven months late !!! She absolutely loved it. I am so pleased with it. It was Fleur by Heritage Stitchcraft and John Clayton. I made some changes to the headdress from mauve colours to greens and I added some beads ...

I've also had a couple of small finishes. These are patterns from my own etsy shop ...

I also finished my little bee embroidery ...

Orange, Orange and More Orange !!!

I've done another few hundred stitches on Autumn Owl Trio, it is perfect mindless stitching !!!!

I've also been working on my sew and stitch quilt. I have now just completed part fifteen (there are 90 issues and I have just received the last one). This part was about attaching the other parts all together and doing some embroidery over the top to link the squares ...

I have also been so inspired by all the hoop art that is on Instagram that I thought I would have a go. It's by no means perfect but I am enjoying it so far ...

Some Progress !!

I've made a little progress on HAED Autumn Owl Trio but this project is secondary whilst I try and power through my Mothers project (which you can see on Instagram, I'm @stitchydondesigns). I've done about 1100 stitches of 722 so far. Because I'm picking it up inbetween smaller projects it doesn't seem so boring !! It also helps that the fabric is so gorgeous (from the Crafty Kitten) ...

I've also done some more playing around with my design and program and have put more designs up in my etsy shop (look in right sidebar). Here are the two I have stitched up since I last blogged ...

Rainbow Journey ...

And a funny quote ...

I have also started a new handbag project. This is to carry around with me to stitch on whenever I get the chance so it won't get any focussed time but bits and pieces here and there. It is called Treat Yourself and is from the latest issue of The World Of Cross Stitching !!

A Restart !!!

I've restarted HAED Autumn Owl Trio as I had stitched it in the wrong place on my fabric originally and it was easier to start again. Unfortunately that means restitching the first page which is 7840 stitches of DMC 722 !!! It's a good job I love this picture so much and that I am still motivated even after having a mini stitching disaster !!!! I've done about 600 stitches so far ...

I am also working on a project for my mum's 60th (this was in January but with everything that happened with my dad I am very behind). I can't share it on the blog because my mother reads it but if you follow me on Instagram @stitchydondesigns I am sharing lots of progress pictures on there. I will post it on here when I have completed it fully and given it to her.

I have also made up another little design and put it on Etsy (click on the link in my sidebar if interested). I am really loving playing around with fabric and thread at the minute it's lots of fun to see an idea in your head pop out onto the fabric !!!! This is called Sew What ...

A Design Of My Very Own

I've been busy stitching away on another design of my own this last week. I am loving stitching this so far, it is very simple but the colours are yummy. I am quite close to the end but have run out of thread so will have to wait till they arrive. I don't want to show the whole piece till it is completed but here are some small pics ...

Happy Butterfly Dance !!!!!

Firstly I just want to thank everyone for their kind words and warmth on my last post, it really meant a lot !!!

I've finally done it !!! I've finished the most frustrating project in my WIP pile. DMC linen butterflies is completed !!!! I have hated stitching this project, the pattern was a freebie from the DMC website but I don't think this version is there anymore. The pattern was so bad it was impossible to tell where the back stitch lines were supposed to go. The only reason I was able to do them was that the company also had the same pattern online but with cotton threads and that one was much clearer to read. The threads themselves were a nightmare and use to fray, break and fluff constantly (no wonder they were discontinued !!!). The only reasons I continued with the project were that the fabric was lovely (The Crafty Kitten) and that the design looks amazing stitched up. The threads have a cool matt finish to them. Here it is ...

Now I'm off to restart HAED Autumn Owl Trio !!

Update and Catch Up !!!

Hello poor neglected blog how have you been ????!!!!!! Life has thrown me a few curve balls this year and my blog has suffered for it.  Last year I spent a lot of time being miserable in my job and a lot of my time was spend reconsidering what I do.  Towards the end of the year  I found a new job and I am soo much happier.  I had to do a lot of training which meant I went away from my family (something I have never done before by myself)  Everything is going really well so far and my new company is just so much better to work for.  I have a much better life/work balance and although it is a challenge starting a new job it has totally been worth it.

Just as things were starting to go really well life had more knocks to give.  In the second week of my new job my dad was rushed to hospital.  My sister and I were called up and told that he had died in the night and been resucitated but we shouldn't expect him to make it through the day.  This was an utter shock, dad had been in hospital the week leading up to this with a chest infection but he had been released from hospital just 5 hours before this occurred as the doctors told us he was fine.  Thank goodness his partner was with him.  His lungs had failed and he was put in ICU on a ventilator.  He spent five days in ICU before moving to ITU.  He is such a fighter and managed to pull through, although at several stages it was touch and go.  The doctors were still unsure what was causing him to be in such distress, my dad was a smoker and has COPD but he has a very mild case of this and they were surprised at his reaction to the infection.  After ten days in total he was released because they no longer had a bed for him as he was well enough to be out of ITU but they couldn't find a ward for him (understandably this is a cause of anger for us).  Three weeks later he was readmitted to hospital with pneumonia and two blood clots (one on each lungs).  Once again he spent another ten days in hospital but he again pulled through and is now home and back to work (although part-time).  He has done really well although he has just been diagnosed with another chest infection.

This has therefore been a really rough beginning to the year but I am hoping and staying positive that the rest of the year well be better.  My sewing is always my comfort and I was hoping that having a structure to my blog would keep me blogging but I have ended up blogging much less than I normally do so I am going back to just posting whenever I want.

Now onto the sewing:

I have been sticking to my rotation but while sewing the second page of HAED Autumn Owl Trio I discovered that I had started stitching in the wrong place and didn't have enough fabric to complete the design.  I was very upset so it went in timeout and I replaced it with HAED QS Seahorse.  I love this design, it goes very quickly as it is just black.  I am stitching 2 over 1 on 25 count lugana called Sunlit Water by The Crafty Kitten.  This is page one completed:

Then I moved onto my dolphin design and finished page six:

Now I am working on my dreaded linen butterfly project (dreaded because of the DMC linen threads I have to use).  Although it is actually going well so far.  Linen Butterflies will be worked on till completion and once I have finished I will restart HAED Autumn Owl Trio and complete page one of that.

I have had a couple of small finishes since my last post:

Be Ewenique:

This is a little fun design that I came up with myself.  I put the pattern up on my etsy (link in sidebar) if anyone is interested.

Finishes Friday #6

On Easter Sunday I spent the day with my sisters family and took a little bit of stitching with me. I had a spare notebook kit from Crossstitcher magazine. Since I had already done one with the given threads I thought it was an opportunity to use one of my stash threads. This was a hand dyed cotton from The Crafty Kitten. It was her January 2013 limited edition colour ...

I stitched it in a swirling pattern to make it look a bit different.

Finishes Friday #5

I've been making good progress on my cross stitch but no finishes this week. I do however have a knitting finish. Meet George, a free kit from Let's Knit magazine. He was a dream to knit but I am not the best at seaming together. However I love how he turned out and instead of filling him with stuffing I filled him full of my ORTs ...

And here he is with a previous knit, Baabara in a little button bag I had for Christmas ...

Finishes Friday #4

I have another small finish to share. This is a little dolphin that someone shared on Instagram and after I saw it I knew I had to stitch it myself right away. I loved it soooo much I stitched it all in one session (it took about five hours in total). I stitched it on a random piece of linen in my stash using a Vicky Clayton silk from my stash ...
