Morning Project: Update Five (Stranded Cotton)

This weeks morning project has been completed.  It is a really funny pattern from this blog.  I have stitched it on some lovely hand-dyed fabric from The Crafty Kitten (the FOTM for February 2011).  I have LOVED this pattern and it has made me smile all week while stitching it.  Next up for the mornings is a Lizzie Kate freebie that I am SOO excited to stitch as it is my first Lizzie Kate design.

Morning Projects: Update Four

Since my last update I have had lots of morning project finishes.  The first was a really bright butterfly that I found as a freebie from somewhere on the internet.  It is a really cheerful piece stitched on some pale blue evenweave:

Material:  pale blue 28 count evenweave
Threads:  regular DMC six-stranded cotton

Then I completed a piece called Le Chat Noir, a really simple but effective design that looks really good against the orange aida it was stitched on:

I then moved onto 'Comedy Dog' a really cute design from this site.  The piccy is soooo cute and only took a couple of hours to stitch up:

The next two pics are from charts gotten off the same site as 'Comedy Dog'.  They were also extremely quick to stitch up, both only took approximately an hour and a half.  'Pretty Violet' piccy:

Waterlilies: Update One

Wow, I have been itching to update my blog but my camera ran out of batteries so I have had to wait until I could get some.  Therefore I have quite a lot of progress to write about.  I will start with the new project that I have added to my rotation since finishing the SEBA Designs 2011 SAL.  This is a project called Waterlilies, a freebie from here.  It consists of two full pages and two three quarter pages.  I have completed the first page and have now moved back onto my wizard design.  So far I am loving the piece, there are big blocks of colour so it stitches up fast but the finished result has a real photo quality about it:

Hand-Dyeing Fabric: Experiment One

So after a bit of internet research I have decided to have a go at hand-dyeing some fabric, since I love stitching on the hand-dyed fabrics I have bought from The Crafty Kitten.  I found some instructions at this site but am attempting to use green tea bags in order to get a dirty, greeny colour.  The following picture is of the fabric soaking in its bath of colour.  I am very excited to see the results.

OOH IT IS LOVELY!!!!  It has come out an off-white colour with a greeny tinge.  The photograph doesn't really do it justice.  Overall I am pleased with the experiment and am going to try again with different natural dyes and colours (mind is racing with possibilities!!).  Should just mention that originally the fabric was a white 28ct evenweave.
